Maintaining depoliticisation
While education is inherently political, it is important that the process for introducing new content into schools, or deciding what should be taught, is as free from direct political pressure as possible. In many countries, teachers and experts have noted that the central curriculum is often shaped by current political needs. Moreover, certain topics, or certain interpretations of them, can be politically sensitive, which can significantly hinder their introduction into schools.
Both the development of the curriculum at the central or local level, and the oversight and control of the procedures for introducing new content into specific schools, should be handled by independent experts. NGOs and informal educators should be allowed to access schools and have the opportunity to offer their services to students. This access should only be limited by the best interests of the children, not by political decisions.
