DH D5 I want to engage students

Engaging students

Recent years have seen improvement in the recognition of children’s rights in education and schooling. In keeping with this trend, students are finding more and more opportunities to participate in decision-making about their education and the curriculum.

How to engage students?

  • Check the conditions for student engagement. See if the forms of engagement treat young people with the respect they deserve, and if they allow for real action.
  • Check how you can support existing student engagement. See the current engagement activities and structures to support what young people are already doing.
  • Check how formalised student engagement can be. Both bottom-up small-scale student activities and national or global structures can make a difference. Know what kinds of engagement you can offer to your students.
